This week, Google Fee began notifying its customers that it would no longer activate smartphones that do not support OOLTE. The change signals T-Mobile’s readiness to phase out 3G and rebuild the spectrum as part of its 5G rollout plan, and since Google Fi is an MVNO, it needs to do the same.
According to an earlier report in July, T-Mobile will stop activating devices that cannot make calls with VoLTE (Voice over LTE). Some smartphones released a few years ago may not be able to offer native support for VoLTE unless they are carrier-branded devices. These devices switch to 3G when making phone calls and thus, will no longer be supported next year.
Google Carrier offers affected customers a credit of કોને 100 if they purchase a device directly from Google Fire and activate it before 31 December. Customers eligible for this credit must have activated a non-VoLTE device on the fi-line by December 3. They must also have received this email notification about credit. The credit is worth considering as it could be combined with other ongoing smartphone promotions.
It was not immediately clear when T-Mobile plans to roll out its nationwide 3G network, but it is taking steps to do so next year to expand its 5G network.
