Google stops selling the Pixel 3a, leaving it without a mid-range phone

Google has discontinued the Pixel 3a and 3a XL. A spokesman said Android Police “The Google Store has sold through its inventory and completed Pixel 3a sales. For people who are still interested in purchasing Pixel 3a, the product is available from some partners while supplies last.”

The phones, which Google announced just 14 months ago, are listed as unavailable in the U.S. version of the store. However, if you are in Canada (like me), the 3a is marked as sold out and the 3a XL is still available.

Reviewers highly praised Pixel 3a and 3a XL for offering great value (including decent specs, a very good camera, and updated Pixel features) on less expensive Android devices than Pixel 3 and 3 XL.

However, there are still no signs of a cheaper version of the Pixel 4, leaving Google without a mid-range device in its smartphone lineup for now. Leaks have suggested that a potential Pixel 4a (or 5a, if Google decides not to release a 4a) would cost $ 349 and would include 128GB of storage. According to reports, Google’s plans for a Pixel 4a XL were scrapped.

It is a reasonably sure bet that Google will add a cheaper Pixel to its line again soon. Various rumors have suggested a release date for the Pixel 4a anytime between now and October.

There’s a chance the company will simply wait and unveil its next mid-range lineup alongside the Pixel 5. Google has announced its latest flagship smartphone every October since 2016.

Some might expect Google to launch the device at roughly a similar time this year, so it has a new smartphone to sell for the holiday season. However, it is unclear what kind of impact, if any, the coronavirus may have had on production, and if there could be delays as a result.
