We got our first glimpse at what might today turn out to be Google Pixel 5, and now a new report has revealed some of the proven specifications of the device.
According to Android Central, Google’s next flagship smartphone will have a 6-inch OLED display with a refresh rate of 90Hz. That display size is right in the middle of the Pixel 4’s 5.7 Pix and the Pixel 4 XL’s 6.3,, but unlike those two phones, the Pixel 5 is expected to have an edge-to-edge display with minimal bezels on the top and bottom. The Pixel 5’s set 90Hz refresh rate would be the same refresh rate as on the Pixel 4, and it’s unlikely that Google will pack in Samsung’s advanced variable refresh level OLED display with an LTPO backplane. We are not sure if the resolution will be FHD like the smaller non-XL models in the past or QHD like the larger XL models.
The Google Pixel 5 is also expected with a dual-camera setup like the Pixel 4, but instead of a secondary camera camera, Android Central is of the opinion that the secondary camera will be a wide angle lens. Although the company experimented with a secondary wide-angle selfie camera on the 2018 Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, the Pixel 5 would be the first Pixel phone to feature a wide-angle camera on the back. Many users wanted this to happen, but perhaps not at the expense of the telephoto camera.
Internally, the Pixel 5 will presumably come equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor, which we expected but could not confirm in the past. The Snapdragon 765G has an octa-core CPU in a 1 + 1 + 6 configuration consisting of 1 ARM Cortex-A76 CPU core clock up to 2.4 GHz, 1 ARM Cortex-A76 CPU core clock up to 2.2 GHz, and 6 ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores clocked at up to 1.8 GHz. The GPU is an overclocked version of Qualcomm’s Adreno 620 found on the standard Snapdragon 765. More importantly, the integrated Snapdragon X52 modem supports 5G connectivity, although it remains to be seen which bands are supported and which antennas and RF components Google packs in Pixel 5
Android Central also reports that the Google Pixel 5 will have 8GB of (presumably LPDDR4X) RAM, which is a step up from the 6GB of RAM on the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4a. Google Pixel phones used only 4GB of RAM up to the Pixel 4, a move that landed the company in hot water when memory management issues arose on the Pixel 3. 128GB of (presumably UFS 2.1) storage is said to be the default is for the Pixel 5 line, just like the Pixel 4a. Meanwhile Android Central says that an earlier rumor of the smartphone with a light 3,080mAh battery is false and that the battery capacity of the Pixel 5 will be “significantly larger” than the Pixel 4s, but they do not have a specific number to share.
The Pixel 5 will support recharging wireless charging, with support for the 15W Qi EPP profile and 5W reverse wireless charging. Evidence for the latter was previously found in Android 11 software.

Android Central also reveals a few details for the Pixel 4a 5G; the device will presumably have a larger 6.2-inch display and similar specs as the Pixel 5, including the Snapdragon 765G processor and 8GB of RAM.

Google has already acknowledged the existence of the Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5, and placed both devices next to the launch of the Pixel 4a a few weeks back. While the reported specs of the devices may not fade, we will be very interested to see what Google does with the camera and software. Google made a big gamble with the 3D face recognition system and Soli radar gestures on the Pixel 4, but it looks like the company is taking a more conservative approach with its pair of 2020 flagships. Given the current economic and social conditions, this may prove to be a smart move.
With the Pixel 4a 5G and 5 expected to be unveiled at the end of September or the beginning of October (with pre-orders starting as early as October 8th), we do not have to wait much longer before we have the full picture. The Pixel 4a 5G costs $ 499, but we do not know the price of the Pixel 5. Both devices will be available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Japan, Taiwan and Australia.
