The latest Pixel was officially launched in less than a month, and it’s already starting to show what could be a bigger problem. Some early Google Pixel 5 buyers are starting to consider the gap between the phone’s frame and the display, which will jeopardize the phone’s IP rating and more.
The new Google Pixel 5 has started reaching the homes of its new owners. Unfortunately, some of them report that their new devices are coming with a small split between the plastic bumper of the screen and the aluminum frame. Reports seem to vary, but this split is usually found in the area around the front-facing camera. Consumers are expressing concern, as this distance could affect the water and dust resistance of the Google Pixel 5.
People on Android Police have also experienced this problem with their device, so it will add a number of reports that are not necessarily large, but are growing at a steady rate. These reports can be found on the Pixel Phone Product Forum and the XDA Forum which has many examples of these gaps and how different they can be in location and separation in these phones.
“We can confirm that our own Pixel 5 review unit is also affected, despite the lower degree than the picture above. Most reports show it in the corner closest to the display’s camera cutout, along the top of the phone, and above the SIM tray on the left, but it can also appear in other areas. However, most of the images show a problem in Just Black Colorway (probably because it appears with a more intense contrast), it also affects the sage green. “
Only time will tell if these gaps affect the water resistance of the phone. Still, reports say that aesthetic flaws are present as the Google Pixel 5 has been taken out of the box, and the screens don’t seem to be falling apart over time. Hopefully, this issue is nothing more than a cosmetic defect that will not harm the performance or durability of the phone.
