Mishaal Rahman (via The edge) posted on Twitter that the FCC had directed him to a new presentation of a Google phone codenamed “G025J”. The FCC only holds the phones in their hands when they’re almost ready for launch, hence our expectation that we will see it soon.
It is not a fact that it is the Pixel 4a, but since the Pixel 4 was called “G020”, it seems to make sense that this is the next Pixel family phone.
What this list also reveals is that there will be no Motion Sense functionality on the Pixel 4a. Since the Soli radar chip that powers these features uses specific millimeter-wave radio signals, this would have been something the FCC would have tested to make sure it was safe for users. This is not mentioned in the list, so it stands to reason that there is no Motion Sense on this phone.
We expected this from other leaks, but it’s always good to get more evidence for certain claims. Given that the Pixel 4a is believed to be dropping the Pixel 4’s large bezel for a perforated display, and is meant to be a much cheaper device, it seemed that Google would have neither the space nor the budget to add this feature.
