Google now offers 100,000 scholarships. This is how you can get one.
This is what you need to know.

Google is giving away 100,000 scholarships so you can earn a certificate online in these three areas:
- analysis of data;
- Projects management; and
- user experience design (UX)
Here’s the trick: Google will try these Google career certificates online as the equivalent of a four-year degree. Yes, the equivalent of a four-year degree if you apply for a related position at Google.
Google career certificates
There are three new Google Career Certificates that you can earn:
1. Data analysis
Google says data analysts can earn $ 66,000 a year (median) and analyze data and make data-driven recommendations to inform essential business decisions. The certificate provides the tools to “navigate the data life cycle using tools and platforms to process, analyze, visualize, and obtain data information.”
2. Project management
Google says data analysts can earn $ 93,000 a year (median) and help plan and monitor projects efficiently. Google says this online certificate focuses on “the fundamentals of traditional project management, while providing insight into agile project management.”
3. User experience design (UX)
Google says that a UX designer can earn $ 75,000 a year (median) and help create a simpler, more accessible, and more user-friendly experience. Google says this online certificate provides “the fundamentals of UX design and research, building low-fidelity wireframe designs and structures, creating prototypes and high-fidelity testing.”
These three new programs follow Google’s IT Certificate, which Google launched in 2018.
How to apply: next steps
Online certificates are developed solely by Google and take approximately three to six months to complete. There are no previous educational requirements or previous work experience. The courses are hosted through Coursera, which is an online platform. While Coursera charges a monthly fee, Google will provide 100,000 needs-based scholarships to cover costs. You register through Coursera to complete a certificate online.
According to Kent Walker, Google’s Senior Vice President of Public Affairs, Google is also “awarding $ 10 million in Google.org grants to YWCA, NPower and JFF to help staff boards and non-profit organizations improve their programs. job training and increasing access to digital skills for underserved women, veterans, and Americans. ” Since 2017, Google.org has awarded more than $ 200 million in grants to nonprofits that work to promote economic opportunities.
These online scholarships and certificates come at a time when more than 40 million Americans have applied for unemployment benefits in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. The next stimulus package, which may end before August 7, may focus on employment and the economy.
