Google Maps is redesigned and more curated ‘Saved’ tab

As part of the big Maps re-launch in February, Google prominently placed “Saved” in the bottom bar. Google Maps is now rolling out a redesigned “Saved” tab with some new features.

The new “Saved” tab in Google Maps uses a lot of carousels and is essentially a feed of them. Previously, the screen had top tabs for Lists, Labeled, Reservations, Following, and Maps.

The first carousel is “Recently Saved”, so it’s faster to see recent additions without delving into any list. Each card contains a cover image, name and description, as well as where it is stored.

This is followed by a second for “Close up” which is especially useful when in an area. In addition, here is information on how far you are.

When location authorization is enabled, you can remotely sort all your saved places nearby and arrange in a carousel for easy browsing to make your next decision a breeze.

Another location-based feature and new carousel will show where you “visited”. This is organized by time, city, region, or country.

You can see how far you have cycled, run and run the past few days. You can also easily find that huge hole in the wall restaurant you visited during one of your past vacations, or that fun boutique you jumped into a few weeks ago.

At the very bottom is “Your Lists”, which by default only shows four items but can be expanded. There’s also a shortcut here to create a new one, while the old tab items appear entirely to create Saved.

The updated Saved Page in Google Maps is already available to most users on Android today. We do not see it on iOS yet. This automated organization can increase the chances of users tagging better when saving locations.
