Launched over a decade ago, Google Fiber’s reach is still limited to 19 cities in the United States. While that coverage isn’t as impressive as the 1 Gbps up and down speeds promised back in those days, the company is moving at least in the bandwidth segment. It will now jump at a speed of 2 Gbps on the domestic line, which is in line with what it has been doing since 2015. It comes at an additional throughput price, and, yet not everyone deserves it.
Google plans to offer 2 gig internet connections to Nashville and Huntville starting next month. However, it is not clear whether the high speed will be limited to a few neighborhood areas or whether it will be available in cities where fiber is present. To support that kind of bandwidth, Google will provide a Wi-Fi 6-enabled router and mesh extensions to improve in-home coverage. You can get this 2 gig service for ડ 100 a month (plus taxes and fees) compared to $ 70 for a 1 gig line.
Before heading for a full rollout, Google is looking for some testers to try out its new 2Gig network and its related on-non-premise hardware. If you’re in Nashville or Huntville, you can go here and fill out a form to sign up for the Google Fiber Trusted Truster program. The company plans to launch a commercial in both cities later this year, while other Google Fiber markets will have to wait until 2021.
