The biggest day of the year is going to pack a big show.

On Monday, as winter begins with the solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, we are also considered a rare and spectacular sight in the sky: Great connection.

During the show, Jupiter and Saturn, the two largest planets in our solar system, will appear very close to each other, as if they were overlapping to form a double planet. The last time we were treated in this way was during the Middle Ages – about 800 years ago.

Some associate him with the weak star of Bethlehem who guided the three wise men in the biblical story of his birth.

To celebrate the first day of winter and the great connection that will take place on the same day, Google has created an animated doodle in which Saturn gives a high-five to Jupiter as it moves into the orbit of its solar system.

A connection occurs when any two astronomical objects appear close to the sky when observed from Earth. From our point of view, even though the two giant planets are actually about 4 million million miles apart, only one tenth of a degree will be visible.

The two planets converge every 19.6 years, but for the first time since 1226 the pair arranged at night and the Earthlings were able to witness it.

The close alignment will be easily visible to the naked eye when looking at the southwest sky after sunset.
