Sending clips or audio, instead of texting or even transcribing, is becoming more and more a common action. Google Assistant now has a dedicated UI for sending audio messages using only your voice.
Behind the scenes, the audio clips are sent via the default Messages client. However, you will no longer need to use this app directly, and may start the process instead of anywhere.
You can say “Send an audio message” and Assistant will follow up with a list of contacts. Alternatively, you can include the recipient in the initial command. Afterwards, Assistant will start recording and provide a text transcript below. You can “Cancel” and “Submit” once at any time.
Sending audio messages using Google Assistant requires an Android phone with mobile service. It is available today in English-speaking countries worldwide, as well as in Portuguese in Brazil.
The capacity is quite an extension of the existing ability to text with only your voice. Of course, audio messaging adds a more personal touch.
