Google announces Explore app for Chromebook

Chromebooks are wonderful computers and anyone who says otherwise simply has no education on the subject. These laptops run a Linux-based operating system called “Chrome OS” which is possibly the most secure web browsing platform on the planet. Chromebooks can not only run web apps, but also Android apps and Linux desktop programs, giving them a huge useful software library. Most importantly, they are very easy to use. For example, you get regular OS updates that install silently in the background, much unlike the complicated Windows 10.

Although Chromebooks are easy to use, that doesn’t mean everyone will become adept the first day. Through experience and education, Chrome OS users can always improve their knowledge of the platform. Today, Google launches a new Chromebook app called “Explore” to help users get the most out of the Chromebook experience. For example, as part of the onboarding process, it can teach you how to change your wallpaper or lock your screen.

Think of the Explore app as your compass for navigating your Chromebook. It’s an evolved way to Get Help, our pre-product educational app. Now, when you log into a Chromebook for the first time and complete the initial enrollment, the La Explore app guides you through the most useful features of Chrome OS Explore’s home page gives you easy access to answers and visual tutorials to some of the most frequently asked questions from new Chromebook owners, such as how best to manage their files on Chromebook, local storage and Google Drive, or how to set up a printer with Chromebook, “says Alexander Kuscher, Chrome OS software director.

Kuscher further says, “You can venture through the Explore app at your own pace. Complete the lessons and search again for new content when you are looking for a specific answer or if you are eager to make sure you maximize your Chromebook. Explore also includes useful features for Chromebook enthusiasts. It has a tab for quick access to some of the best Chromebook benefits, so you can quickly redeem them. “

If you want to test the app, apparently you don’t need to install anything as Google implies that it will automatically install on all supported Chromebooks. It is unclear whether it will be delivered in a future OS update or will be added to existing machines silently in the background; I guess the first one. On my Chromebook, at least, I’m not showing any apps that are available.
