Mostly fairly reliable, Google reports that Gmail and other G Suite applications are “seeing an increase in service”. Gmail, followed by Google Drive, down is the biggest problem at the moment. Problems started late Wednesday night (PT) and continue into the early hours of Thursday.
Update: The company said at 2:40 a.m. PT “service has already been restored for some users.” As of 4:10 a.m., all issues with the 11 Google apps have been resolved.
At 7:30 pm PT on August 19, Google announced that it was “investigating reports of a problem with Gmail” and Drive. An update at 11:07 a.m. said the G Suite team “continues to investigate this issue.” At the same time, the disruption spreads to Google Docs, Meet (video calls), and Voice (phone), with chat (group messaging), Groups, and Keep (notes) after midnight. The issue extended to Google Sheets, Sites, and Slides during the day.
The next status update is expected at 1:21 pm Users in Asia-Pacific and India are currently particularly affected. In the email service, some are unable to log in, while others are unable to upload attachments – which is particularly disruptive to workflows. After several minutes, a warning appears “Oops, something went wrong”. We meet on the last page, but can successfully send / receive emails and search for past messages.
In Google Drive, some users are not even able to upload files, although creating documents still seems to work.
Elsewhere, there are issues listed in Meet, while chat messages can not be posted. Additionally, the Admin Console has an issue with uploading CSV users, voicemails in Voice, and new pages cannot be added to pages.
The company’s non-productivity services are not currently down.
