Glass Fire: Describes large chunks of ash falling from a residential bay area

Morgan Balai, a resident of Santa Rosa, told CNN on Monday that he had seen at least two large pieces falling from the sky in his neighborhood in California.

Glass fires have erupted in more than 36,000 acres in less than 48 hours, forcing thousands to evacuate.

Balai shared photos of her with CNN, which showed a huge piece of ash outside her home one Sunday.

“It was lying on the street in front of my house,” Balai told CNN. “At first it looked like someone’s turpentine.”

Morgan Balai, a resident of Santa Rosa, found this huge chunk of ash outside his home on September 27.

The ash that has been falling since the glass fire started on Sunday is mostly burnt leaves and white ash, Balai said.

“I could hear him getting out of my car,” he said. Another photo taken by Blaine from inside his car shows ash covering the windshield.

He also found another large piece of ash in a blood-orange tree on Monday afternoon.

While Balei lives in an area that has not yet been evacuated, she told CNN that the fire is still too close to rest. She and her family faced the threat of fire and knew it was best to prepare.

“Luckily, we learned from the previous fire and got all our important documents and family memorabilia in a packed and easily accessible place, and started loading our cars around late last night after all the warnings started,” Balei told CNN. “Waiting for the mandatory evacuation notice before we leave, if it comes, we’ve decided that.”

Baley said his family moved to Tubs Fire in 2017 and it was “really difficult.”

“As a family, we have decided that we would rather stay there and leave,” he said.

“Given the amount of ash and the fact that you can see the leaves burning in it, I think this fire is different.”
