ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the New York Giants have reached an agreement with Chandler Catanzaro.
The deal, which Adam Schefter reports will be for one year, will be finalized after a physical examination.
Catanzaro did not play in 2019, retiring after losing a couple extra points in the Jets’ preseason game against the Giants last year. Before signing with the Jets in 2019, Catanzaro played 5 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Carolina Panthers.
During that period, he played in 77 games, making 119 of 142 field goal attempts (83.8 percent), with a length of 60 yards, as well as 182 of 196 extra points (92.9 percent).
Catanzaro’s signature is likely related to the legal problems of Aldrick Rosas, who was arrested earlier in the offseason. Reports early Sunday indicated the Giants were expected to cut Rosas, a move that would save them all the $ 3,259 million he owed this season.
It remains to be seen whether the team will bring in another kicker to compete with Catanzaro, but it seems likely that there will be more moves.
