German authorities on Thursday are on the hunt for a business executor accused by federal police of committing “fraud in the billions”.
Jan Marsalek, the former chief operating officer of bankruptcy payment company Wirecard, is suspected of fleeing Germany after learning police were in pursuit. A poster issued by federal authorities shows a 2017 photo of the 40-year-old Austrian with a full beard and mustache, and a 2019 photo of him clean shaven.
Marsalek “is strongly suspected of having committed billions in commercial gang fraud, the particularly serious case of sustainability and other crimes for property and economy,” the poster read. “It simply came to our notice then. ‘

Interpol also put Marsalek on the most wanted list on Thursday, giving him a so-called red message about accusations of “violations of German duty on securities law and the trading of securities, criminal breach of trust (and) especially serious case of fraud . “
Wirecard filed in Munich for protection against creditors through an insolvency proceedings on June 25 after executives admitted that $ 2.2 billion represented as held in trust accounts in the Philippines apparently did not exist.
Former CEO Markus Braun has been arrested in the aftermath, along with the company’s former chief financial officer and former chief accountant.
As chief operating officer, Marsalek was in charge of all operational business activities, including sales, and is suspected of inflating the company’s overall balance sheet and sales volume, police said.

Dealing with Braun alleges that Marsalek “has recorded fictitious proceeds from payment transactions in connection with deals with so-called third-party buyers to make the company financially stronger and more attractive to investors and customers,” police said.
Anyone with information about Marsalek is asked to contact the police as prosecutors of Munich.
