Three people died after an ultralight plane crashed into a house in Wesel, in northwestern Germany, authorities say.

The identities of the dead are not yet known. A boy was also treated for injury and shock. The plane could have carried two people.

The images show severe damage to the roof of the house with emergency workers attending a now-extinguished fire.

Police told the Bild newspaper that the plane had taken off from Marl airfield.

Police Chief Peter Reuters said the emergency services were called at 2:42 p.m. local time (12:42 GMT), adding: “Three deceased people were found in the attic of the apartment building. They are adults. One child was also found slightly wounded and shocked. ” The ultralight aircraft took off from the Marl airfield with two occupants and landed again in Wesel to make a stop. “

A witness told Bild that there had been an explosion and a fireball.

A parachute was found near the crash site and is believed to be the plane’s emergency brake system.

A spokesperson told Der Tagesspiegel that the house was divided into five apartments.

Wesel is about 65 km (40 miles) north of Düsseldorf.
