Georgia High School soccer is scheduled to continue this season. However, games will start later than expected.

The standard 10-game schedule is still in place and the standings will have a full five-week postseason schedule. Other fall sports may also play softball and volleyball are approved to continue.

High school soccer programs will begin on July 27 and padded practices can begin on August 1.

Georgia High School Public Broadcasting announcer play-by-play Matt Stewart added more information from the GHSA Board of Trustees meeting.

“Breaking news from @GPBSports: @OfficialGHSA votes to delay the start of the soccer season by two weeks. The practice start date is July 27. The plans are to play the full 10-game regular season. Complete playoffs and state championships. It all went back two weeks, ”wrote Stewart on social media.

The news comes at an important time for Georgia High School Football. The 2020 season will see new rankings for various teams. It was created to help balance the power of competition for the coming year.

Teams like Dacula High School will remain in the AAAAAA Class this season. They were the number 1 school in the ranking.

The decision also helps several of Georgia’s top prospects. According to 247Sports Composite, top athletes like five-star prospects Amarius Mims and Brock Vandagriff will be able to get to the grill this season.

Both players are the best prospects in Georgia of the recruiting class of 2021. They will be attending the University of Georgia this season.

Other top athletes include the Clemson Tigers pledge Barrett Carter from recruit North Gwinnett and Alabama Crimson Tide Terrence Ferguson from Peach County High School.

The ability to play this season will allow them to develop further as they finish their high school career.

Ahead of Monday’s meeting, Georgia High School Association President Glenn White opposed canceling the sports season. He told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he wants to give students the opportunity to compete.

” Do people have proposals? OMG yes, all kinds of proposals, ” White said. “Mine is this: I agree with any proposal as long as the stations are not canceled. I am strongly against canceling athletics, and I mean all the things we do in the fall: softball, cheerleading, cross country, volleyball. I want all of these things for our students. I want to give you a normal routine and something to focus on besides COVID-19. ”

The GHSA did not have to come to that conclusion. High school soccer is back in Georgia for students this season.
