Georgia health officials have confirmed that a 7-year-old boy without underlying conditions has become the youngest person in the state to die of COVID-19.
The African-American boy was infected with the disease after attending a church in Savannah, where he was in contact with two senior members who were also infected with the virus and died, the local NBC branch reported.

“The death of this child is absolutely tragic, and we are praying for her loved ones in this difficult time,” Republican goddess Brian Kemp said in a statement received by WSAV-TV.
Authorities have not disclosed his identity.
The boy was seized after a shower and was taken to Chatham County Hospital, where he later died, according to WSAV.
An April report in The New York Times found that a small number of COVID-19 patients exhibit neurological problems, such as strokes and seizures.
Kemp’s office said it was still gathering information on the death of the child.
“Every COVID-19 death we report is tragic, but to lose one so young is especially heartbreaking,” local Georgia District Health Director Dr. Lawton Davis wrote in a statement on Thursday.
“We know that older people and those with underlying conditions are at higher risk for complications, but this is a disease that everyone should take seriously,” he said.
According to data from the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Research Center, Peach State now has more than 209,000 cases and more than 4,117 deaths with an 11.92% positivity rate.
