The full SEC schedule for the 2020 football season will be announced later, but the league threw the crowd a bone and announced the first game for each team at 3 pm ET on The Paul Finebaum Show. Georgia will launch its 2020 campaign in Arkansas.
Arkansas fired Chad Morris at the end of the 2020 football season after going 2-10. It hired Sam Pittman, who has been Georgia’s offensive line coach for the past four years, to lead the program. Pittman is an assistant coach and has not served as a coordinator, but he was a favorite assistant coach in Athens because of his ability to recruit. He rebuilt the Bulldog’s offensive line in short order and recruited three players, Andrew Thomas, Isaiah Wilson, and Solomon Kindley, who were taken in the 2020 NFL Draft. Thomas and Wilson were taken in the first round with the previous going no. 4 in general and the last went no. 28 in general.
UGA is 10-4 against the Razorbacks all season and defeated them 45-32 the last time the two teams play in the state of Arkansas. That game was played in Little Rock and the Bulldogs led 38-6 at halftime. Nick Chubb, in his second start of his career, rushed 30 times for 202 yards and a few scores in the win.
Georgia and the 13 other member programs will play a 10-game, conference-only conference in 2020 due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19. The Bulldogs hold the previous eight teams scheduled for 2020, Alabama (away), Auburn, (home), Florida (neutral), Kentucky (away) Missouri (away), South Carolina (away), Tennessee (home) ), and Vanderbilt (home). It added a trip to Arkansas and a home game against Mississippi State.
The 10-game lay begins three weeks later than it would under normal circumstances. It will allow one bye week a year and another on December 14th. The second bye week will come for the SEC Championship game and it will be for all 14 SEC programs to provide a way for makeup games if one should be put off.
