Gary Neville slammed “nonsense” fines as Man UTA sentenced Crystal Palace

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville hit a VAR-assisted decision that saw Crystal Palace take a 2-0 penalty against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

With the Eagles up 1-0, a spot-kick was awarded after a long delay when Victor Lindloff was forced to commit a handball to the Bucks thanks to an effort by Jordan Ye Yu.

Palace’s striker landed to take a penalty, but his poor effort was saved when David de Gea helped keep the shot away by diving to his right.

Referee Martin Atkins blew his whistle to signal that the white-kick should be taken again as the game continued for a short time as DG decided to stay away from his line at the point of contact.

David de Gia was outraged by Martin Atkinson’s decision

Wilfrid Zaha took the second penalty and made no mistake in burying it and keeping his side 2-0 up.

Neville was clearly outraged by the incident, and criticized both after the initial decision to impose a fine and for it to be taken again.

“It’s a complete disgrace,” he said. “We’re talking about millimeters. This is unbelievable.

“I thought the penalty Leeds got last week was a nonsense and so this is one. It’s never a penalty. There’s no chance. Lindelof didn’t have the key (where the ball was).”

Wilfried Zaha scored the penalty taken again

Discussing the incident on social media, he tweeted with fellow pundit Michael Owen: “I don’t mind the withdrawn penalty. Everyone knew the officers would get tougher off GK’s line.”

“But that handball decision was a joke. Who makes these ridiculous handball rules?”

And Gary Liner added: “No fines in a million seasons. A futile decision,” before he added: “Good heaven. The game is gone.”
