Garrett Nussmeier continues to recruit for the Tigers

2021 Flower Mound (Tex.) Marcus quarterback Garrett Nussmeier helped the Tigers achieve another primary goal with four-star wide receiver Zachary (La.) Chris Hilton announcing their engagement on Friday.

With the latest promise of the Top 10 class, LSU rose to the No. 6 overall class in the country in the 247 Sports Team Recruitment Ranking. Hilton is the third Top 100 overall prospect on catcher to commit to the Tigers, joining four-star game maker Aled0 (Tex.) JoJo Earle and four-star catcher Jackson (Miss.) Provine Deion smith.

Nussmeier is one of the best recruiters for the Tigers and sees the class perform in a big way with the second Top 100 prospect to commit to the Tigers in a week.

“It’s been really good. I’m really excited to see things shake up. We have some really exciting things to come,” Nussmeier told 247Sports. “If you’re a LSU fan and you’re worried about our class, don’t do it. It’s going to come very, very well.”

Nussmeier’s recruiting field has multiple angles of play for the head coach Ed Orgeron to NFL dreams to add to the National Championship trophy in Baton Rouge. The Lone Star State four-star prospect who got engaged to LSU in May highlighted his argument for top prospects to join him in the class.

“One, Coach O is the best recruiting coach and personal trainer in college football,” said Nussmeier. “I remember every week since my sophomore year talking to him weekly. He may have been a little piece of the board at the time and then become one of the best on the board, talking to him every day.”

“Two, you have a great opportunity to come and play in the NFLSU. Fourteen boys recruited this year, so if you play well, you do your part, you do your excellent job, there is a good chance that you will be recruited.”

“Third, who wouldn’t want to go to LSU? The atmosphere there and playing in Death Valley on Saturday nights. There’s nothing like it in the country.”

“Finally, at home a National Championship back to Baton Rouge.”

Among the prospects at the top of Nussmeier’s list is four-star receiver Walker (La.) Brian Thomas Jr., the state’s No. 1 wide receiver and another Top 50 overall prospect. Thomas’ landing would give the Tigers a strong argument for the nation’s No. 1 wide receiver class.

247Sports ranks Thomas as the No. 40 overall prospect in the country, No. 2 overall receiver in the nation, and No. 3 overall prospect in Louisiana.

The 6-4, 195-pound wideout caught 75 passes for 1,272 yards and 17 touchdowns during the 2019 season, then flipped the switch to the basketball court, playing for one of Louisiana’s top teams. That profile of two sports is what made Thomas one of the top receivers in the country.

Stick with 247Sports as Nussmeier continues to push to add other top prospects to the 2021 recruiting class.
