Garmin services go offline after suspected ransomware attack

Garmin is experiencing a widespread outage affecting its website, apps, Connect data sync platform and other services, the company announced on Twitter. The problem has even affected its call centers, preventing the company from receiving calls, emails or messages online. While the company says it is working to resolve the issue, it did not disclose the reason behind the outage. According to ZDNetHowever, Garmin had to shut everything down for a few days to deal with the consequences of a ransomware attack that encrypted its internal network.

However, runners, cyclists, and other health enthusiasts who trust Connect are not the only ones who feel the impact of the disruption. ZDNet says flyGarmin, the web service that supports Garmin’s aviation navigation team, was also closed. It prevents pilots from downloading the latest version of Garmin’s aviation database into their systems, which is required by the FAA. The Garmin Pilot app also used to schedule and plan flights.
