Garmin outage – some features restored but users still face issues

Garmin outage continues, with restoration of some services, but users likely to face ongoing issues.

Last Thursday (July 23), Garmin users started facing issues with the Connect app, which is used to upload activities to Strava and other apps.

Then news emerged that Garmin Connect had completely crashed with runners and joggers unable to wirelessly upload activities from their Garmin GPS devices and watches.

The US-based tech company Garmin has reportedly been hit by a ransomware attack with hackers demanding $ 10 million, but Garmin has yet to confirm this.

Strava now reports that some Garmin Connect features are working again, but that users may continue to face delays and charging issues.

An update to Strava, released Sunday night (July 26) said: “Garmin Connect has resumed service and delayed activities have started to load on Strava.

“This will happen automatically. Given the volume, this can take a week or more. Thank you for your patience. If you need to upload your activity before that, below are instructions on how to upload it manually.

If you’ve already manually uploaded an activity, don’t worry: duplicate activities won’t appear when the same activity is automatically synced.

“We will not respond to support tickets related to delayed or duplicate uploads, as most of these issues will resolve themselves.”

Garmin also reports that activity details and uploads should work once again, but the challenges, connections, courses, and daily summary features in the Garmin Connect app are not yet fully operational.

The company also said that Garmin Golf, Garmin Dive and LiveTrack are fully operational.

Garmin Coach faces problems as existing plans may have delays in processing activities.

Incident detection and support is working, reporting is functional and segments are also working.

Synchronization of third-party applications may be delayed, while Wellness Synic also works, but will be delayed.

Workouts can be created in both the web and mobile versions of Connect, but are not yet synced to devices.

Third-party trainings submitted through the Training API will be queued.

Garmin said it is experiencing issues affecting a number of services, including the Connect app. Technical support call centers are also affected by the outage and cannot receive calls, emails, or online chats.

The company said, “Although Garmin Connect cannot be accessed during the outage, activity and health and wellness data collected from Garmin devices during the outage is stored on the device and will appear in Garmin Connect once the user syncs their device.

“Garmin has no indication that this disruption has affected your data, including activity, payment, or other personal information.”
