GameStop may have leaked the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC character and is one of the fans who have long loved

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate just saw the release of their latest DLC character, Min Min from ARMS. Min Min is the first contender in Fighters Pass Vol. 2, and we now potentially know who will follow her as the next DLC character before her official reveal.

In a new GameStop video, the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character apparently leaked. If this turns out to be legitimate and you are looking to avoid spoilers, we recommend you go back now.

GameStop recently released an “All In” video focused on the Paper Mario series in honor of the upcoming release of Paper Mario: The Origami King. Presenter Pamela Horton guides viewers through the history of the franchise, looking to the roots of the series.

Naturally, a look back takes us directly to Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. While providing some details on the RPG title, Horton mentions how much fans of the game love and talks about the title’s unique humor and character designs.

What follows is a very peculiar statement about Geno, the fan favorite Star Road Warrior. “I mean, there is a reason people were going crazy when Geno was announced for Smash!” Horton says.

Obviously, this is a strange exclamation considering that Geno has not been revealed as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It also doesn’t line up with anything related to the character and the cross fighting game.

On screen during this statement, we see the art of the Geno character on the Spirit Board. If Horton is referring to Geno’s spirit, that wouldn’t fit well, as fans weren’t “freaking out” when it was revealed to be a non-playable piece in one of the newer modes in the Smash Bros. series. Reaction was all. the opposite, actually.

The same can be said for the Geno Mii Fighter costume that was released in Super Smash Bros. 4. Fans were not enthusiastic about this choice, as it meant that the representative of Mario RPG would not be a playable character, and that also took place in 2015.

The implication here, considering the source, is that GameStop received early feedback on the upcoming Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC character and may have included that detail under the impression that an official announcement had already been made.

Nintendo has talked a lot about its current set of circumstances regarding adjustments made due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. With employees working from home, including Smash Bros. series creator Masahiro Sakurai, there is a possibility that an announcement of the next character was initially planned, but it may have been delayed due to the current situation.

During Min Min’s presentation, Sakurai reiterated that development has been more difficult due to the pandemic. She noted that even despite what’s happening right now, the Smash Bros. development team promises to deliver the next five DLC characters with their own special trailers.

“Even in the video game industry, some games can face challenges,” Sakurai said on the subject of the pandemic. “The release plans of some games may change.” Having said that, it is possible that Geno’s disclosure has already happened, but he was eventually delayed.

A reveal from Geno for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would have definitely coincided well with the press and the release of the new Paper Mario game. However, now that window has been lost, fans will likely look at the rumored Nintendo Direct that is set to take place later this month.

Geno is a character that fans have been requesting for a long time. Even Sakurai himself wants Geno in Super Smash Bros., and has tried in the past to make this happen, but to no avail.

On YouTube, GameStop followed in the comments saying they don’t have inside information on the matter. “To clear up any confusion, Geno is a spirit in Smash, not a playable character (as shown in the images at 2:07). We don’t have any information on new Smash characters that the public doesn’t have.” The company wrote.

We don’t know for sure if this possible slip of the tongue is confirmation that Geno is next in line for Smash, but he is a prominent figure on the fan demand list. We just have to wait and see what happens here.
