The industry may be somewhat muffled due to the fact that almost a third of respondents were already working since the pandemic at home. Most of the rest (about 70 percent) quickly switched to remote work. However, working from home, especially during a global pandemic, presents some unique challenges. Almost half of the respondents said that their productivity decreased. Nearly a third said their creativity slowed, and 41 percent said they work longer hours.
“The team’s biggest overall challenge has been managing environmental stress. Everyone has been affected by the pandemic in some way, even if not directly, and the general atmosphere of anxiety is impossible to ignore completely, “wrote one developer.
Despite the challenges posed by isolation, poor communication, a deteriorating work-life balance, and childcare, only one in 10 developers said they felt safe when they returned to the office. It’s hard to say whether developers will return to traditional offices or when, or when conferences such as GDC will happen again in person.
