Galaxy Z Fold 2 reportedly costs 100 euros less than the OG model

Samsung released the Galaxy Z Fold 2 on Galaxy Unpacked 2020, but so far the company managed to keep the launch price of the product secret. This expected nugget of information is likely to be revealed at Unpacked Part 2, the special launch event for the Galaxy Z Fold 2, but it has been rumored that the second-generation Z-Fold will cost 1,999 euros in most European countries.

As a recent report from WinFuture is true, this effectively means that Samsung managed to make the Galaxy Z Fold 2 cheaper than the original model. The OG Galaxy Fold was first released for 2,100 euros in most European markets, but Samsung managed to reduce the price of the second-generation model by almost 5%, despite the improvements made to the exterior design, hinge and various specifications including the cover and collapsible screens,

The launch price may be lower, but there is one major caveat

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 has half the storage capacity of the Galaxy Fold and a total of five cameras instead of six, but these may not be the reasons why it has become cheaper. Let’s not forget that the Galaxy Z Fold 2 also has a larger cover screen protected by Gorilla Glass Victus, a larger Infinity-O foldable Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and faster 25W charging, so the cost reduction is achieved by some downgrades must be compensated by major upgrades in other key areas.

In practice, Samsung was able to lower the launch price of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 a bit by removing the wireless earbuds from the retail box. The Galaxy Fold was shipped with a few Galaxy Buds +, but so far there has been no indication that Samsung wants to follow the same strategy as before.

Quite the opposite, the BTS unboxing and first impression video suggests that the Galaxy Z Fold 2 retail box contains some regular, wired AKG earbuds. The type of AKG earbuds you get with the Galaxy Note 20 series, assuming you live outside the US.

This has not yet been officially confirmed, that it may change, the same as the rumored price of 1,999 euros. Perhaps the end product will be combined with wireless earbuds, but so far this accessory has apparently been omitted.

All in all, Galaxy Z Fold 2 buyers can get the foldable phone for a lower price up front and this can work to their advantage as long as they are not in the market for a pair of wireless earbuds. Otherwise, if they want to buy the Galaxy Buds + or the Galaxy Buds Live along with the new collapsible, they can pay more in total.

Which side of the gate are you on? Is paying less for the Galaxy Z Fold 2 without wireless earbuds a better statement than paying a little extra for an accessory you may not need? Or do you think Samsung might be offering buyers of Galaxy Z Fold 2 a service?
