Ohio State linebackers coach Al Washington has been spectacular with his recruitment in 2022, including landing Olathe (Kan.) Blue Valley North linebacker Dasan McCullough who today announced a pledge for the Buckeyes. McCullough joined linebackers Gabe Powers from Marysville (Ohio) and linebacker CJ Hicks of Kettering (Ohio) Alter to give the Buckeyes a spectacular trio.
And now the Buckeyes also have a 5-star linebacker among the trio. With the update of the Rivals rankings, Powers has moved to a 5-star perspective in the 247Sports Composite player ranking Powers is now a 5-star perspective in the Composite, country no. 33 in the general class of 2022 prospectus, the no. 1 outside linebacker and the no. 1 general prospect in the state of Ohio.
The 6-foot-4 and 218-pound Hicks are now a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He is the total 81 prospect of the country in 2022, the no. 4 outside linebacker and the no. 2-prospect in Ohio.
The 6-foot-5 and 220-pound McCullough is a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He is the total 71 percent of the country in 2022, the number 7 athlete and the no. 1 prospect in Missouri.
Powers played center linebacker prior to his second season when he moved to outside linebacker and made 90 tackles. The Buckeyes have recruited him as an outside linebacker.
Powers has nearly two dozen scholarship offers including Penn State, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Nebraska, Michigan, Florida State, Tennessee, Colorado, Boston College and Pitt before taking on the Buckeyes.
Powers attended two Buckeye games last year, winning over Michigan State and Penn State.
The Buckeyes also have a great start to their 2022 recruiting class with promises from Powers, Hicks, McCullough, the No. 3 prospect in the state of Ohio in cornerback Jyaire Brown and Ohio’s no. 5th class of 2022 prospect in offensive lineman Tegra Tshabola.

The Buckeyes also have a spectacular 2021 recruiting class that goes with 18 early promises. Their to-do list currently consists of 5-star quarterbacks Kyle McCord who was her No. 1 quarterback goal in the 2021 class, 5-star running back TreVeyon Henderson, 4-star run back Evan Pryor, two 4-star wide receivers in Jayden Ballard en Marvin Harrison Jr., tight end Sam Hart, two of the country’s elite offensive line prospects in 5-star Donovan Jackson and 4-star Ben Christman who is the top class of 2021 offensive line prospect in Ohio. On the defensive side of the ball, the Buckeyes have another 5-star prospect in defensive end Jack Sawyer, Ohio’s top defensive approach in Mike Hall, the country’s No. 2 in linebacker in Reid Carrico, a trio of excellent cornerbacks in Jakailin Johnson, Jordan Hancock en Denzel Burke, top security in the state Jaylen Johnson, 4-star security / cornerback from Tennessee Andre Turrentine, the general view no. 1 in safety / athlete in Kentucky Jantzen Dunn and Australian punter Jesse Mirco. The Buckeyes’ 2021 recruiting class is currently ranked no. 1 in the country in the 247Sports Composite team that wins rankings, and leading as no. 2 Alabama.
