Watchers, The wonderful lady maisel And Ozark garnered multiple 2020 Emmy nominations on Tuesday, while Netflix beat HBO for the most preselected shows.
Leslie Jones, Josh Gad, Tatiana Maslany and Laverne Cox announced the nominations in advance. Although award ceremonies such as the Oscars and the Golden Globes have delayed their great nights due to the coronavirus pandemic, we will find out who wins 2020 Emmy Awards when ABC broadcasts the ceremony live on Sunday, September 20, from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
Among the nominated shows, HBO’s Watchmen garnered the most nominations, at 26, followed by Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel at 20 and Netflix’s Ozark at 18. Jennifer Aniston, Olivia Colman, Jodie Comer, Laura Linney, Sandra Oh and Zendaya are on the list. Best Actress in a Drama, sitting opposite best actor wannabes Jason Bateman, Sterling K. Brown, Steve Carell, Brian Cox, Billy Porter and Jeremy Strong.
In the Best Drama category, more than half of the nominees are on streaming services: Netflix’s The Crown, Ozark and Stranger Things, Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, and Disney’s Plus The Mandalorian show competing with Killing Eve from BBC, HBO Success and AMC Better Call. Saulo Overall, Netflix had 160 nominations while HBO had 107. There were multiple nominations for several newcomers to the streaming game, including Apple TV Plus (18 noms), Disney Plus (18), and Quibi (10).
