Full details on Rey Mysterio’s problems with his reported WWE contract

Rey Mysterio was in one of the most brutal matches at WWE Extreme Rules. Mysterio was the one who chose the stipulation in hopes of taking revenge on Seth Rollins’ actions a few weeks ago. However, The Monday Night Messiah led Rey Mysterio head-on to the steel steps, taking his eye out of his socket and winning the match.

Rey Mysterio and WWE were previously reported to have yet to agree to the terms of their contract. The WWE Superstar fought his match in the WWE Extreme Rules after his contract had expired, but he is reportedly on good terms with the company.

Negotiations of Rey Mysterio’s contract with WWE

It was previously reported, after WWE Extreme Rules, that Rey Mysterio had not yet signed a contract with WWE. Dave Meltzer, on this week’s Wrestling Observer Radio, noted that Rey Mysterio is very likely to re-sign with WWE. He also enlightened the WWE Universe that Vince McMahon is the one who oversees the contract negotiations and not Triple H.

On the show, it was also reported that Rey Mysterio’s son Dominik’s WWE contract and his future at the company are another problem. WWE hoped to have the Mysterio situation ordered by WWE Extreme Rules, but that did not happen. The reason for the same was not any negativity from both sides, but the fact that Rey Mysterio wants a raise and is not moving.

Another reported problem with Rey Mysterio’s contract is the tenure included in the deal. The company wants to lock Mysterio up for a period of five years, but he doesn’t want the contract to extend for more than 18 months. Rey Mysterio reportedly stands firm on the 18-month clause and also wants the raise.

The reason why WWE cannot meet Rey Mysterio’s money demand is the fact that COVID-19 hits the company. WWE was forced to make budget cuts and relieved a number of fighters from their contracts in April.

With AEW becoming one of WWE’s biggest competitors, Rey Mysterio may abandon ship, but will the company be willing to meet Mysterio’s demands?
