Fuggedaboutit: Wan striian village renamed ‘F — ing’ to attract unwanted tourists

Residents of a small Austrian village called F-King have voted to change its name after receiving unsolicited attention from English-speaking tourists.

Next year, a village of 100 inhabitants near the German border will be named Fugging.

“I can confirm that the name of the village is being changed,” Andrea Holzner, mayor of Tresdorf, told the regional daily Oberosteririchche Nachrichen, where the village is located.

“I really don’t want to say anything more – in the past we had enough media frenzy about this.”

English-speaking tourists are increasingly flocking to F-King for a photo-for-five next to the village’s name sign.

Some people find themselves wondering in front of a marker for social media.

Signposts are also reported to have been stolen, telling authorities to install new ones with concrete to prevent theft.

The 1825 map had the name of F-King King’s village. But some experts believe the name dates back to the 11th century.
