“It [the deal] gives a green light to start putting into practice new quality of stable and visible American military involvement in Poland, ‘he added.
The pact gives American troops access to additional Polish military installations to improve existing capabilities and facilities, and paves the way for the redeployment of American troops from Germany to Poland. It also provides a mechanism for sharing logistical and infrastructure costs for US troops present in Poland.
The US has similar agreements with other NATO allies such as Belgium, Hungary and Romania.
Czaputowicz and Pompeo have also discussed the situation in Belarus – Poland has been one of the countries re-calling the presidential elections in its neighboring country.
Pompeo said the elections, last weekend, were not free or fair and that the US would support Belarus and the country’s civil society without giving details.
On Friday, EU foreign ministers took the first steps towards imposing sanctions on top officials in Belarus. In Poland, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced his plan to help Belarus’ civil society, for example by supporting Protestants and reducing border controls and accessing the Polish labor market for Belarusian citizens.
