Frito-Lay just recalled a bunch of potato chips back – here’s the full list – BGR

  • Frito-Lay has been forced to recall an enormous number of its potato chip products because they were put in the wrong bags.
  • The reminder, which affects BBQ chips and variety packs, contains unlabeled allergens, including milk.
  • If you have any of the potentially incorrectly marked chips, avoid eating them and contact the company for a refund.

The product just keeps coming back. You thought things would calm down a bit after all those peaches and onions came back, right? Well, think again, because it’s 2020 and nothing is as it seems, and that includes the chips found in a whole bunch of Frito-Lay bags.

No, seriously, the chips in a variety of sizes of potato chips with barbecue flavor are literally not what they look like, because they are not the right kind of chips at all. As the company reveals in a new bulletin posted by the FDA, the bags being recalled actually do not contain BBQ chips, and as such, they may contain allergens (specifically milk) that are not declared on the label.

The recall does not specifically state what other types of chips were accidentally dumped into the BBQ chip bags, but the fact that milk is marked as the potential allergen suggests that the chips may have ranch aroma. Now I am not someone who complains about ranch chips, but if you have a milk allergy, I will go through and advise you to probably avoid them.

From the bulletin:

Frito-Lay today released a voluntary reminder of 1 oz., 1 1/2 oz., 2 5/8 oz., 7 3/4 oz., 12 1/2 oz., 15 1/2 oz. bags with Lay’s Barbecue Flavored Potato Chips, as they may contain declared milk ingredients. These recalled bags can also be included in selected Frito-Lay Variety Packs. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk are at risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product contained in the recall bags.

Unfortunately for Frito-Lay (and anyone who prefers a wide variety of chip flavors) the memory is not limited to just a few bags of chips with BBQ flavor. Since the chips were also included in various bags and boxes with mixed flavors, these are also recalled. You can find the full list of recalled products and their UPC codes on the FDA’s return page.

The good news is that, to date, no one has reported any allergic reactions after eating the wrong chips. Still, when it comes to allergies, the risks of potentially serious health consequences can be high. Hopefully everyone with a milk allergy will notice that their BBQ chips are not actually BBQ and they go away anyway, but you can never be too careful.
