Frito-Lay confirms that employees test positive for COVID-19 at the Bakersfield facility


BAKERSFIELD, California – Frito-Lay confirmed Thursday that some employees at its Bakersfield facility have tested positive for COVID-19, but safety precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of other employees.

According to the company, employees are quarantined and have been advised to seek medical attention. The company said it is taking all necessary steps to identify and notify people who may have had contact with those who tested positive.

We can confirm that a limited number of employees at our Bakersfield, California, Frito-Lay facility have tested positive for COVID-19. According to guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other health authorities, employees are quarantined and have been advised to seek medical attention. We cannot disclose additional details about people in accordance with privacy laws.
The safety of our employees, products and community remains our top priority. We have taken all necessary steps to identify and notify individuals who had direct contact with COVID-19 positive employees and have asked them to self-quarantine for a period of 14 days. We continue to perform improved daily cleaning and disinfection procedures based on CDC guidelines and using EPA-approved registered products for COVID-19 at the Bakersfield site.
To further protect our associates, we have implemented a variety of safety measures including social distancing, symptom detection, temperature controls, and we provide the required PPE for employees at the Bakersfield facility. According to the guidance of the California Department of Public Health, Frito-Lay requires that all employees must wear a mask in the workplace.
We continue to apply already stringent preventive safety and sanitation measures at all of our locations and operate in accordance with guidance from CDC and other health authorities. There is currently no evidence that food or food packaging is associated with transmission of COVID-19 and there is no risk to food security.
