‘Friendly bear’ castrated after sniffing woman’s hair in Mexico

A “friendly bear” was castrated in Mexico after sniffing a woman’s hair, according to a report.

The operation was performed on the male black bear after video circulating from him near the woman last month came at Chipinque Ecological Park in San Pedro Garza García, the BBC reported.

Recordings showed the wild animal – known by the locals as the ‘friendly bear’ – approaching the woman and sniffing her hair when she took a selfie with him.

Officials said they decided to castrate and move the animal over concerns that it has become too common for humans.

The bear, which weighs 212 pounds, was taken prisoner by federal environmental officials after residents in the area alerted them to the animal sleeping in their backyard.

He will be released in the Sierra de Nido Mountains in the state of Chihuahua.

Martín Vargas Prieto, the director general of wildlife control, defended the decision to neuter the animal before moving it, saying it would help prevent him from getting into fights with other bears, the BBC reported.
