In other news about coronavirus: Oakland County Department of Health issued an emergency order to a Pontiac-based mortgage company after 53 employees tested positive for coronavirus, health officials in Genesee County believe a spike in Flint area STD indicates social distancing attachment and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is required to wear masks at child care centers and camps.

Here’s all the latest about COVID-19 Michigan that kicks off Thursday, August 6th.

Michigan reports 722 new cases of coronavirus, 26 new deaths

Michigan health officials reported 722 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday, August 6th.

The Department of Health and Human Services also announced 26 new deaths, 17 of which were identified during a vital records review performed three times a week. Nine of the dead were in the last 24 hours.

During the entire pandemic, the state reported 85,429 known cases of COVID-19 and 6,247 deaths associated with the virus.

The seven-day moving average of the state for new cases per day had generally been since mid-June, when it reached 150 new cases per day. It reached 768 on July 29 and has since declined to 649 new cases per day.

As for the new deaths per day, the state average has remained in single digits since July 15th. It puts on eight new deaths a day.

Hundreds of children may have been exposed to coronavirus at camp in Michigan

Health officials say about 250 people who attended an overnight camp in southwest Michigan are at risk of exposure to coronavirus after several people in the camp tested positive for the virus.

Five staff members and one camper who were at Camp Michawana near Hastings have tested positive for COVID-19, and one person is considered a likely case because of their symptoms, the Barry-Eaton District Health Department announced Thursday, August 6th.

Health officials warn that anyone who attends Camp Michawana, a faith-based youth camp, on or after July 24 may be exposed to the virus. The camp property includes a children’s camp, a family camp and a traditional-style campsite – all three of which were open during the potential exhibition period.

About 250 people have attended the camp as crew over the past two weeks and are at greatest risk of exposure, health officials said. Of that total, 180 children were under the age of 18 who attended the overnight camp for children and 70 were either staff or attendees of the camp in family style.

Order issued to 53 Michigan employees of United Shores test positive for COVID-19

An emergency order was issued Wednesday in Oakland County after 53 employees of a Pontiac-based mortgage company tested positive for COVID-19.

The contract was issued to United Shore by the Oakland County Department of Health, and required the company to enforce social clearance rules, require face covering, begin screenings on daily sickness in the office, and encourage employees to work from home, if possible.

Bill Mullan, spokesman for the Office of the Executive of Oakland County, said the company is responding appropriately to the order.

“From June 29, until the end of the day yesterday, 53 people who tested positive for COVID-19 said they were employees on the United Shore main campus in Pontiac,” Mullan said. “Some work from home and others work personally. The worksite itself is not necessarily the source of the transfer. “

Spike in STLs in Flint area could be tied to relaxed social distance, fears for health officials

Genesee health officials think they may see an early warning sign of relaxed social distancing attachment: an uptick in cases of sexually transmitted disease.

Members of the Provincial Board of Health said Wednesday, August 5, that they think an increase in reports of at least one category of STDs in June could be due to a release of COVID-19 restrictions and a resumption of larger meetings such as graduation parties last weeks.

A statement issued by the counties of Genesee, Livingston and Oakland earlier this week warned that cases of coronavirus among teenagers aged 15-19 have sharpened in the region, and some members of the health authorities said it may also be time to issue a warning too loud about the dangers of STDs as person-to-person contact becomes more frequent.

There were 102 cases of gonorrhea reported in the province in June, compared to an average of 79 cases in the previous five months of 2020.

Whitmer mandates use masks at child care centers and camps

Face cover should be worn in all child care centers and camps in Michigan under an executive order issued Thursday by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

Executive Order 2020-164 requires:

  • All staff and children aged 2 and over wear a mask on a school bus or other means of transportation.
  • All staff and children aged 4 and over wear a mask in all common indoor spaces.
  • All staff and children aged 12 and over wear a mask when they are in classrooms, houses, toilets, or similar settings for small groups.

The mayor also strongly encourages all children 2 years and older to wear face masks when they are indoors. These rules are in line with existing face covering rules that already apply to pre-K-12 schools in Michigan, a press release said.

COVID-19 FIXING TIPS

in addition to wash your hands regularly and do not touch your face, officials advise to practice social distance, assuming everyone carries the virus.

Health officials say you should stay at least 6 feet away from others and work from home, if possible.

To use disinfectant wipes of disinfection of spray cleaners on frequently touched surfaces in your home (door handles, faucet, appliance) and carry with you sanitizer if you go to places like shops.

Gretchen Whitmer, Michigan, has also issued executive orders requiring people to wear face masks over her mouth and nosewhile in public indoor and outdoor spaces. See a explanation of what that means here.
