Frankie Edgar can join exclusive club


The fourth of five UFC events in August ends Saturday with UFC on ESPN 15. The event takes place at UFC Apex in Las Vegas and is broadcast on ESPN / streams on ESPN +.

An important battle for bantam weight takes place in the most important event. Pedro Munhoz (18-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC) is set to welcome Frankie Edgar (23-8-1 MMA, 17-8-1 UFC) to his third UFC weight class as the former UFC lightweight champion down set fourweight after fighting for the belt three times.

Main Event: Pedro Munhoz Vs. Frankie Edgar

Pedro Munhoz

Munhoz returns for competition for the first time since June 8, 2019. The 441-day dismissal is the longest of his more than six-year UFC career.

Munhoz’s six wins in UFC bantamweight competition are fourth most in division history behind TJ Dillashaw (eight), Marlon Vera (eight) and Urijah Faber (seven).

Munhoz’s three wins in UFC bantamweight competition are tied for the fifth most in division history behind Faber (six), Rani Yahya (five), Aljamain Sterling (four) and Vera (four).

The three knockdowns of Munhoz landing at UFC 227 are tied for the UFC singles-fight bantamweight record along with Hugo Viana (TUF 16 Final) and Andre Soukhamthath (UFC Fight Night 114).

Edgar, the former UFC lightweight champion, drops to bantamweight after a stint of 13 fights in the fourweight division.

Edgar could become the 11th fighter in history to earn victories in three different UFC weight classes.

Edgar’s five losses in UFC championship fights tied with BJ Penn for second most in corporate history behind Randy Couture (six).

Edgar’s submission by Swanson at the 4:56 mark of Round 5 at UFC Fight Night 57 is tied for the third final stop in a UFC match behind Demetrious Johnson at UFC 186 (4:59, Round 5) and Yair Rodriguez at UFC Fight Tonight 139 (4:59, Round 5).

Edgar is one of two fighters in UFC history to defeat a three opponent on three separate occasions within the octagon. He did that to Penn. Tito Ortiz also picked up the performance against Ken Shamrock.

Edgar is the only fighter in UFC history to have suffered three knockdowns in one round and not lost the fight. The feat happened during his UFC 125 draw with Gray Maynard.

Ovince Saint Preux (24-14 MMA, 12-9 UFC) returns to the lightweight heavyweight division after a one-fight stint at heavyweight, where he lost to Ben Rothwell at UFC on ESPN + 29.

Saint Preux competes in his 21st UFC light heavyweight fight, tied with Mauricio Rua for the second most appearances in division history behind Jon Jones (22).

Saint Preux’s 11 wins since 2013 in UFC light heavyweight competition are the most in the division.

Saint Preux’s 10 stop wins in UFC light heavyweight competition are tied with Jones for second most in division history behind Glover Teixeira (11).

Saint Preux’s five victories in UFC light heavyweight competition are tied with Teixeira, Jones and Misha Cirkunov for the most part in division history.

Mariya Agapova (9-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC), 23, is the youngest of 22 fighters scheduled to compete at the event.

Shana Dobson’s (3-4 MMA, 1-3 UFC) three-fight losing skid is the longest of her career. She has not won since December 2017.

Daniel Rodriguez vs. Takashi Sato

Takashi Sato

Takashi Sato (16-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) makes his second UFC appearance in a 56-day stretch. He beat Jason Witt at UFC on ESPN 12 on June 27th.
