NEW YORK (AP) – Two so-called election technology companies are fighting back over false allegations of widespread voter fraud in President Donald Trump’s presidential election, prompting unusual public statements from Fox News and Newsmax.
These statements, over the weekend and on Monday, were raised by companies Smartmatic and Dominion, raising the possibility of legal action for reports that they had misinformation about them.
The campaign’s suggestion referred to both companies that votes were counted in the swing states for the benefit of President-elect Joe Biden. The companies deny many of the statements made about them, and there is no evidence that any of the voting systems in the 2020 election were rigged or deleted.
The nearly two-minute pre-taped episode aired over the weekend on the Fox Business Network program hosted by Lou Lou Dobbs and the Fox News Channel show with Maria Bertioromo and Jeanne Pero.
It came days after SmartMatics sent a letter to Fox and two other networks threatening legal action with Trump supporters, Newsmax and the One America News Network.
The two-minute Fox segments were broadcast in the form of a question-and-answer session between non-screen and voice-over and Eddie Perez, a voting technology expert at the Non-Partisan Open Source Election Technology Institute.
“I don’t see any evidence that smartmatic software was used to delete, alter or modify anything related to vote tabulations,” Perez said.
The company says its only job involving the 2020 U.S. election came from Los Angeles. The statement, aired by Newsmax Anchors on Monday, and printed on the company’s website, was very detailed and related to both Smartmatic and Dominion.
