Fox News attracts 7.1 million viewers on the third night of RNC, dominating competition

Fox News Channel averaged 7.1 million viewers in the 10 hour ET hour on the night of Republican National Convention Wednesday, while no other network cracked the two million viewer plateau.

The Fox News coverage – hosted by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum – came on top of that of ABC, NBC and CBS together.

CNN averaged 1.55 million viewers from 10-11 hours ET, while MSNBC ruled for 1.46 million. Both liberal networks were crowned by their broadcast competitors, as NBC averaged 1.96 million viewers, ABC averaged 1.89 million and CBS captured 1.78 million viewers. Fox News ended the night with 45 percent of the market share of RNC viewers.

Roughly 15.8 million people voted in over the six networks, compared to 22.8 million viewers for day three of last week’s Democratic National Convention. While the RNC’s total viewing numbers failed to reach those of the DNC, Fox News’ coverage of the RNC’s third night covered last week’s DNC night on CNN and MSNBC.

Coverage of Tuesday night’s convention proceedings drew nearly eight million viewers to Fox News alone. Between 8pm and 11pm ET Tuesday, Fox News averaged 7.2 million viewers, providing the channel’s most watched Tuesday and helping “Hannity” land the largest audience of all time.

President Trump, who is famous by heart, is apparently hoping that his speech Thursday night will draw an audience similar to the one his wife received. Tuesday was also the second most-attended congress night on a single network in cable news history, following only the last night of the 2008 RNC on Fox News.

While RNC viewers from other years are on other networks, Fox News viewers are glued to the coverage. FNC had the most-attended coverage of the opening night of any national party convention in the history of cable news when as many as 7.1 million people voted on Monday.
