LAS VEGAS – It certainly didn’t come without controversy, but the JP Boys (9-2) opted for a first-round stoppage win against Jacob Silva (6-4).
The contest served as a typical turn of Dana White’s Contender Series 36, which streamed live on ESPN + from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Tuesday night.
Bias was able to take the fight to the floor in fast fashion after hitting the balance with a low kick. The takedown was at the center of the cage, but Bias was able to secure the top position and start exploring options. Bought saw briefly while taking mount but had to settle for side control. Then, when Silva bucked and felt almost a sweep nail, Bias was able to slip back and annoy the back. Silva faced the roll, but the bias got locked in the arm-triangle pile that was destined to end the fight – if it weren’t for the most daring effort from Silva, who could turn the place around and look where it wasn’t easy. ‘T does not exist.
The trouble didn’t stop there, as the deep bay was closed in the guillotine square as time was wasted due to the bias. With Bias on the neck, referee Mark Goddard advanced the fight with six seconds left in the opening round. With Silva’s face blocked, Guildard’s decision was difficult, although eventually he was with Silva’s immediate opposition.
Despite the odd ending, the Boys were given a UFC deal.
In the heavyweight bout, Nick Maximov (6-0) kept his full record uncontrollable, although that part is moving forward and facing the -54-pound weight discrepancy, it was tough against Oscar Kota (11–3).
Taking action on the floor, Maximov wasted no time, immediately shooting at the start of the contest and making a takedown. Eventually Kota turned to his knees, where Maximov started the score-free punch. Kota clung to him and was able to get back on his feet, spreading well when Maximov immediately started firing again. Kota couldn’t do much with the control he secured, but he would be able to maintain his weight on his enemy for hours.
After a pair of traded kicks for a second start, Maximov stepped forward. Kota filled it, but then surprisingly decided to go back for the guillotine. It failed, and Maximov happily climbed to the top. Working with his opponent’s half-guard, Maximov was busy enough to keep the position with short punches and short tees in potential positional advances, but was always very careful to maintain his dominant position.
Maximov headed to another takedown to start the final round, and Kota was flattened once again on his back. Maximov tried and tried to set up an arm-triangle, but he managed to keep his big-time opponent trapped on the floor. It was effective, though not necessarily exciting, and Maximov was able to win the decision, 30-26, 30-26 and 29-28.
UFC President Dana White refused to give Maximov a UFC contract but said he was extending his fur to join next season of “The Ultimate Fighter”.
In the Strovet action, Brazilian Gloria de Paula (-2-2) managed to beat Judoka Paulin Mias Kias (-1-1) and kept herself out of a bad position to move towards an impressive decision victory.
It was de de Paula with a shocking strike to start, although Mias Kias was able to cut early and catch the clutch as early as possible. While she was looking for a takedown, De Paula teased the guillotine, forcing Macias to pause and adjust and throw a little on the canvas. However, she was not able to earn on the position, and reset on both feet. Once there, De Paula showed impressive takedown defense and was able to lock in a thunderous effort against it. Macias defended well and almost got bored of running a few minutes off the clock, but de Paula refused to hold his cheek until the end.
It was de Paula again and with a fierce strike to start another and looking to go inside the mucks. The straight punch and quick kick went clean from de pola, and she made tight runs with elbows and knees. Makias got a takeaway, but he couldn’t keep up the fight on the floor, and the next guard pulled backfire, in which De Paula landed several big strikes from a dominant position.
Apparently down on the cards, Messias came out running a heavy strike, but de Paula, was able to catch and run towards the fence, she pressed part of her head to the center. With a bit of a standing position, De Paula retreated and landed on a large elbow while freeing her. Macias continued to search for the tacos that had been removed, and de Paula punished him by striking at all levels while he was on foot. Makiyas was late, but he refused and De Paula had to compromise for an impressive 30-26, on all three cards.
However, this victory was enough for De Pola to get a UFC contract.
Tucker Lutz (11-1) won his 11th consecutive victory over the previous unbeaten Sherrad Blacklage (5-1) in a light contest between the fighters returning to Dana White’s tend tender series.
Shortly after the exit process began, Farrow walked into the clutch, and it was Blacklage who finally cut short after doing some grinding clutch work. Lutz got back on his feet in quick fashion, but Blacklage took advantage of every available opportunity to work even in short punches and elbows. As the trade took place within the knee, Blacklage went to the groin and Lutz took a short break. On the restart, Blacklage also took a kick for the groin, and then another timeout.
Late in the frame, Lutz had some success with a big kick in the leg before shooting from the inside and landing on the desired takedown. Blacklage teased the guillotine briefly, but he let it go and tried to get to his feet, allowing Lutz to take his back before the llnt.
The two men exchanged intense strikes to open the second, but after Blacklage stepped forward and pressed for a takedown, it was Lutz who was able to take advantage of the clutch following his canvas action and slip back. Blacklage carefully stood Kanti inside, but was unable to make room, and Lutz grabbed a guillotine and fell to the floor. Despite being a bad place, Blacklage could pass through it and pull free to reset.
Late in the frame, Blacklage was able to pull the action onto the canvas. However, Lutz did not stay there long, rising to his feet, where the battle of the grinding clutch continued until the closing bell of the two forged punches.
Blacklage had to go through stiff knees to get a clutch early in the third, but once the action turned to the canvas, it was Lutz who landed in side control and made a strong position. Blacklage was able to get his feet on the cage and try to get rid of it, but Lutz was too heavy at the top and maintained firm control. It wasn’t the most action-packed sequence, but it was strict control, and Lutz used it to win 30-27 on all three cards, as well as a decision on the UFC contract.
In the first fight of the night, flightweight Victoria Leonardo (8-2) suffered a slight loss along the way but eventually lost to the previous undefeated Chelsea Hackett (3-1-1) in the second round of the TKO.
Hackett opened the competition with several impressive front kicks up and a few snapping blows on the foot. Leonardo was finally able to move forward with a stern strike and took the action to the canvas, where he immediately started the strike from the top position. Hackett returned to his feet late in the frame, where there was a strike between the two until the end.
To open the second, Power Strikes flowed freely, with Heck favoring his slick kicking game and Leonardo showing tough and strong punches in the range. Hectz responded with his own punch and clearly knocked his opponent. However, Leonardo wisely closed the gap to slow things down and eventually managed to step towards the canvas, where he went to the mount and walked away, catching the motion completely. Hackett tried his best to buck and roll but eventually Punch’s non-stop barrage was killed. Referee Mark Goddard called him at 4:41 of the second frame.
The performance was enough to get Leonardo a UFC deal.
