A current employee and 10 former employees of Ellen Degeneres they have anonymously filed claims about a “toxic work environment” on set.
The individuals, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation, told Buzzfeed News in an article published Thursday, July 16, that Ellen DegeneresThe daytime talk show of the same name is not the lighthearted and benevolent show that viewers watch at home. Instead, employees said they were fired after taking medical leave or days of mourning, faced micro-assaults, and were favored by executive producers.
No specific claims were made against DeGeneres, however, some told Buzzfeed News that they were told not to speak to A-lister if she was in the office.
“People focus on the rumors about how Ellen is bad and all that, but that’s not the problem,” said a former employee. “The problem is that these three executive producers who direct the program are in charge of all these people [and] those who do the culture and are taking out this feeling of intimidation and being mean. They feel that everyone who works in Ellen’s show he’s lucky to work there: ‘So if you have a problem, you have to go because we will hire someone else because everyone wants to work here.’ “
