Former Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich identifies a major technical flaw in David de Gea

Mark Bosnich believes he has identified a technical flaw that is responsible for David de Gea’s increased mistakes at Manchester United.

United were knocked out of the FA Cup against Chelsea on Sunday when De Gea conceded three soft goals in a 3-1 loss.

The second goal, in particular, was a huge mistake by De Gea when he allowed Mason Mount’s shot to slip under his hand.

It was a mistake similar to what De Gea made against Tottenham Hotspur last month and Bosnich doesn’t think it’s a coincidence.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the former United goalkeeper believes De Gea’s balance is wrong and that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may need to drop the Spaniard for the last two Premier League games of the season this week.

“I spoke a few weeks ago after that mistake against Tottenham and I spoke about it from a technical point of view about how he seems to be pressing his entire balance forward with his feet,” he said.

“Especially for the second goal, you saw him again, so he threw himself back.”

“Either it is moving just before they shoot, or its balance is more likely to be too uneven.”

“Once you start diving back as a goalkeeper, you’re in big trouble.”

“It has been fantastic for Manchester United for a long period, there is no doubt about that.”

“But in the last eight to 12 months there has been a consistency of mistakes from him that we haven’t seen before.”

“Ole has to seriously weigh whether he brings Romero in for these last two games.”

“That is a big decision that you have to make.”
