Former Trump administration spokesman Miles Taylor announced his support for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and fired the president Monday afternoon. Taylor had served in the Homeland Security department under President Donald Trump between 2017 and 2019, and was former chief of staff to DHS secretary Kirstjen Nielsen. “After serving more than two years in the leadership of the Homeland Security Department in the Trump administration, I can attest that the country is less secure as a direct result of the president’s actions,” he wrote. Taylor in an op-ed for The Washington Post. Taylor accused Trump of turning DHS into “a tool for his political advantage”, focusing only on issues he thought were central to his re-election and not paying much attention to the potential effects of proposed policies before. he approved of them.
In a Republican Voters Against Trump ad, Taylor announced that he was undermining Joe Biden, saying that what he witnessed in the Trump administration was “terrible.”
