Former Dallas Maverick Shane Bradley was paralyzed after being hit by a car bike, the team said.

Bradley released the details Wednesday for the first time since an accident on January 20, a block from his home in St. George Utah, Mavericks. Said in a statement.

The former foot-to-inch basketball player underwent neck fusion surgery following an accident and has been hospitalized and undergoing rehabilitation for the past eight weeks.

“His very sense of faith is being tested as he participates in intrusive physical therapy and learns how to cope with the challenges of paraplegia.”

“Doctors have advised him that his path to recovery will be both long and difficult, perhaps a more difficult physical challenge than playing professional basketball.”

The statement said that, as stated in the statement, he is in good spirits, and plans to use the accident as a platform to raise awareness among more people about the importance of bicycle safety.

Mavericks owner Mark Cube said he was saddened to hear of the accident.

“Shawn is always incredibly determined and shows a fighting spirit,” Cube said. “We want him nothing but the best in his recovery. He will always be a part of our Maves family.”

In his more than eight seasons with the team, Bradley “showed all the qualities you need in a person to represent your organization,” said Donnie Nelson, general manager of the Mavericks. “He has always displayed reckless grip and determination and we think about him at this difficult time. He is an enthusiast for life.”
