Ford compared the Mach-E 1400 to gasoline-powered models such as the ’65 Mustang Hoonicorn RTR V2, the 2020 Shelby GT350R Mustang and the 2019 NASCAR Mustang. The driver and “fun pro” Vaughn Gittin Jr. took it against those cars in a variety of modes, including drifting, aero tests, and gymkhana. In the video, Ford showed off the prototype by running literal smoking circles around the other Fords. “Getting behind the wheel of this car has completely changed my perspective on power and torque,” said Gittin Jr.
The Mach-E isn’t the only 1,400-horsepower EV Mustang, as Ford’s Cobra Jet 1400 can match it. However, that EV is designed for endurance racing, not drifting.
The Mach-E 1400 will serve “as a test bed for new materials,” Ford said. That means he is not likely to sell the car unless fans of unconditional performance can persuade him otherwise. He plans to debut the prototype in a NASCAR race soon, while production Mustang Mach-E will hit the U.S. in late 2020.
