We have already heard musings that the following Ford Mustang comes in 2022, and now we hear the word that the Blue Oval apparently plans to gallop its next seventh-generation pony car by 2030.
Citing sources close to the Blue Oval plans, industry Automotive News reported Monday that Ford will keep this next pony car for a long eight-year product cycle. AN’s sources also confirm a start date of 2022 for production, which would give the next Mustang life by the end of this decade at least.
When asked about this report, Ford declined to comment on Roadshow about future product.
An eight-year lifecycle for the next Mustang would not be very surprising, since the current car has been running since 2014, but according to the report, Ford originally planned for a shorter, six-year life for the next Mustang.
Rather, Ford maybe accidentally indicated on a production date of 2022 for the revamped Mustang in its own to-do list. This past February, the motorist called applicants on LinkedIn for a winning candidate to contribute to the next gen Mustang. The ad said this individual would be the “definitive sign-off” on the “2023 S650 program.” The current Mustang has the S550 designation.
The date of 2023 hints at a model year, which is in line with the rumored production start of 2022. In fact, the job list also mentioned a debut of 2022. We could see something more next year, but at the moment it seems like we are A solid two years away from all the big Mustang news.
As for the car itself, details are mightily snapped. However, one persistent rumor points to the Mustang going to Ford’s CD6 platform, which also supports the latter Explorer and the Lincoln Aviator.
