Florida Walmart buyer brandished weapon in apparent dispute over coronavirus masks


Florida authorities are searching for a man with no facial covering seen in security footage pointing a gun at another man’s masked face, threatening to kill him inside a Walmart store over the weekend.

On Tuesday, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office requested help from the public to identify a man seen on surveillance cameras at a Walmart store in Royal Palm Beach on Saturday. The man, who does not have a mask, was seen pushing another man in a wheelchair inside the store.

The man in the wheelchair appeared to be holding a red scarf partially over his mouth but his nose was still exposed.

Another man approached them, wearing a black mask and holding a girl’s hand.

In the midst of an exchange, the unmasked suspect moved the man’s and boy’s middle finger, drew a pistol from his waist, pointed the gun at the man, and threatened his life, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported, citing the office. from the sheriff.

The young woman tried to distance the man from the suspect, and a fourth man, also wearing a mask, intervened to intervene.

“Do you think you are big and bad because you take out a gun?” The sheriff’s office tweeted, sharing images of the exchange captured by surveillance cameras.

The suspect left the store in a white Chevy Equinox. It was not immediately clear what charges, if any, would be brought against him if he were arrested.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that the incident could have been the result of a dispute over whether to wear masks during the pandemic to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Florida broke the national record on Sunday for the largest single-day increase in positive coronavirus cases in any state since the start of the pandemic, adding more than 15,000 cases, as its average daily number of deaths also increased.
