A Florida television journalist revealed Thursday that a viewer detected a mysterious lump on his neck that was later found to be cancerous.
Victoria Price, an investigative journalist for WFLA News in Tampa Bay, shared the news on Twitter in a message to her viewers.
“As a journalist, you have been at full speed since the pandemic began. Endless changes in an endless news cycle. Adjusting to remote workflows and, in my case, taking on a new investigative role, “Price wrote.” We were covering the most important health story in a century, but my own health was the furthest thing from my mind. “
“Until a viewer sent me an email last month,” he added.
Price shared the email from an eagle-eyed viewer, saying, “Hi, I just saw your news report. What worries me is the lump on your neck. Please check your thyroid. It reminds me of my neck. Mine turned out to be cancer. Beware.”
A little ~ personal news ~ to share.
It turns out I have cancer. And I owe it to one of our wonderful @WFLA viewers for getting my attention.

Price wrote that the stranger’s email prompted her to call her doctor, and diagnostic tests confirmed that she did indeed have cancer.
The journalist, a student at Boston University, wrote that she will undergo surgery on Monday to remove the tumor, her thyroid and some nearby lymph nodes.
He added in a follow-up tweet that chemotherapy “is not on the cards” and remains confident that treatment will not be necessary.
“The doctor says it is spreading, but not too long, and we hope this is my first and last procedure,” Price wrote. “If I had never received that email, I would never have called my doctor. The cancer would have continued to spread. However, it is terrifying and humiliating. “
Price expressed his appreciation for the viewer who sent him an email when he was under “zero obligation” to warn him and winked at the station’s phrase “On Your Side”.
