Florida Representative Matt Gaetz Spend at Speechwriter and TV Studio Seems to Violate House Rules of Ethics

Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) appears to have violated several House ethics rules, reports Politico. According to reports, Trump’s acolyte incorrectly directed thousands of dollars in taxpayer funds to an LLC linked to speechwriting consultant Darren Beattie in conflict with House rules. The Daily Beast reported last year that Beattie had been fired from the White House for attending a 2016 white nationalist conference. Gaetz may also be violating a rule that representatives and family members cannot receive gifts for value greater than $ 50. A private company set up a studio in the home of Gaetz’s father, which Gaetz uses when making television appearances. For each appearance, taxpayers’ money is used to rent the television camera, and the company that installed the studio charges a fee. Gaetz’s office insisted that Gaetz received approval from the House Ethics Committee for each of these issues, but provided no evidence.
