Florida records highest daily number of coronavirus deaths

The Florida health department reported 156 deaths from the coronavirus on Thursday, beating a record the state set just days earlier.

The new deaths bring the state’s total to 4,677 COVID-19-related deaths, according to state data.

The Florida Department of Health also reported 13,965 new positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases statewide to 315,775.

Florida is experiencing one of the biggest spikes in coronavirus cases in the US despite cases increasing across the country.

Non-core businesses remain open across the state with some restrictions in place, although bars have been ordered to stop serving alcohol, and there is no state order requiring them to cover their faces in public.

Some local leaders across the state have established orders that require mandatory face masks.
