A Florida man allegedly shot and killed two people, including a 13-year-old girl, in a fight over his dog, police said Monday.
Port St. Lucie police said a girl called 911 around 12:20 pm to say there was a man in her home who she thought had shot her parents after he received a court order related to the dog. TCPalm.com reported.
Police officers found the suspect inside the house where two victims had been shot and participated in a shooting that left an officer injured, deputy director Richard Del Toro said.
The shooter was reportedly upset when his dog was declared dangerous in court early Monday.
“He went there to confront his neighbors and this is what happened,” said Del Toro.
The alleged shooter was killed, although Del Toro said it was not yet clear whether he had been shot or killed.
Another man in the home was found dead when officers arrived, and the teenager was injured. She died in a hospital.
The relationship between the deceased man and the girl was not immediately known.
Nadine Huneault, who lives next to the victims, told the store that disputes between the dog’s owner and her neighbors began in April.
“The shooter has a dog and attacked the lady next door,” he said.
